The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) is an independent, nonprofit standardization organization that develops and distributes globally applicable standards for information and communication technologies, including mobile, fixed, radio, broadcast and Internet technologies. ETSI is officially responsible for the standardization of communication technologies in Europe.
The European Telecommunications Standards Institute is recognized as an official European standards organization by the European Union. It provides valuable access to all European markets and standardizes short-range devices, low-power radios, GSM cell phone systems and terrestrial trunked radio professional mobile systems.
ETSI is a partner in the 3rd Generation Partnership Project. It was initially created by the Committee of European Posts and Telephones in 1988.
As of 2011, ETSI includes 740 members from 62 countries inside and outside Europe.
